About Germany

Germany has 82,3 million inhabitants and nine neighbours: Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland and Switzerland.

“Cosmopolitan and hospitable“ – this was the remarkable label guests from all over the world gave Germany at the World Cup 2006.

The country offers a great lifestyle, open-minded inhabitants and a highly diverse countryside comprising sandy beaches at the North and Baltic Seas as well as snow-covered Alps in the south.

Germany is also renowned for the quality of its products with the trademark “made in Germany” and companies like Daimler, Siemens, Lufthansa, and SAP are well known throughout the globe.

Also known as the land of the poets and thinkers, Germany is the birth place of Goethe, Beethoven, Bach and many other important personalities of our history who have strongly influenced cultural epochs.

The federal structure and the cultural sovereignty of each of the 16 federal states ensure that the country maintains a vibrant cultural scene including 5000 museums, 300 theatres, over 100 musical theatres and opera houses, 130 professional orchestras and 7,500 libraries.

The modern printed book was invented in Germany, in the 15th century by Johannes Gutenberg, who created a printing press that used movable metal types.

King Ludwig’s many beautiful fairy-tale castles in Bavaria, where “Neuschwanstein” is the most famous, are visited by millions of tourists each year.
