Located next to the Potsdamer Platz in the "Berlin Mitte District", the Grand Hyatt Berlin is within walking distance to the main city attractions: Brandenburger Tor, Reichstag, Tiergarten and the Philharmonic Hall. Potsdamer Platz is the centerpiece of Berlin and was rebuilt by the renowned architect Renzo Piano into a magnificent complex that houses futuristic buildings, trendy cafés, bars and restaurants.

Berlin has two main international Airports:


Airport Tegel (TXL)
Tegel is located in the north-west of Berlin, approximately 11 km from the Grand Hyatt Berlin. It is a passenger friendly airport with various public transport connections (e.g. Bus X9, get off at Zoological Garden, then take the U2 underground line direction “Pankow” to Potsdamer Platz. A taxi ride to Central Berlin (East or West) will cost around EUR 15.00 – 20.00 and take approximately 25 min.

Airport Schönefeld (SXF)
Schönefeld is located in the south-east of Berlin, approximately 20 km from the Grand Hyatt Berlin. It handles most flights to Eastern Europe and Asia. An easy way to get into town is by Airport Express to Alexanderplatz Station. Then change to the U2 underground line, direction “Ruhleben”, get off at Potsdamer Platz. A Taxi ride will take around 45 min and cost between EUR 30.00 – 35.00.

Getting Around


By Public Transport

Berlin´s public transport is managed by the public transport authority (BVG). The tariff area is divided into:Zone A: city center within the S-Bahn Ring
Zone B: outside the S-Bahn Ring up to the city boundary
Zone C: Greater Berlin (area approx. 15 km around Berlin including Potsdam).
One ticket allows travelling on all trains, metro, trams, busses and ferries which are managed by BVG.

By Taxi
Taxis can be easily found at all train stations and airports or through phoning a taxi company. Taxis in Germany are painted beige and have a "Taxi" sign on the roof of the car.

 

Climate

Berlin has continental climate with cold winters and hot summers. During the summer months from June to August daily temperatures reach 22 – 25 °C (72 – 77 °F). However, there are often days with temperatures up to 30 °C (86 °F). Between December and February highest temperatures are between 2-3 °C (35 °F). The average temperature in September reaches max. 20° C (68°F) and min. 10° C (50 °F) with approximately 6 sunlight hours per day and an average of 12 rainy days per month.

 

Currencies

Since January 2002 the EURO has become the official currency in Germany and many other European countries. All major credit cards are accepted.
 

Visa Information

EU and EEA (European Economic Area) citizens do not need a visa.

Non-EU and non-EEA citizens generally require a valid passport to enter Germany for visits less than 90 days. Furthermore, Residents of the following countries do not require tourist visas to enter Germany: Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Hong Kong, Iceland, Israel, Japan, Korea (Republic of Korea), Liechtenstein, Macau, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, San Marino, Singapore, Switzerland, Uruguay, USA and Venezuela.

Most nationalities from Africa and Asia are required to have a visa!

Medical Services

EU citizens who require medical services do not need to provide any special proof of insurance. Addresses for physicians of all specialties are listed in the Yellow Pages. Night and weekend on-call emergency medical and dental services are available.
